It’s been a busy week or so. Dana and I are slowly and surely getting everything situated in the house. We spent the majority of last week trying to find stuff in our house, which is always fun.
We went out Friday and bought two ceiling fans, one for Deuce’s room, one for our room. I started on Deuce’s room, thinking I could get them both installed by starting at 7:30 pm on Friday.
Not so much.

With the help of many people, Dana and I moved all of our stuff from the apartment to our townhouse on Saturday. We really have to thank everyone that helped, because we would still be moving now if it weren’t for everyone.
Read on for the “Moving Day” log.

Yes, I know, they are a few days behind, but it was a crazy weekend. Tack on the fact that we are moving this Saturday, and we don’t have much time on our hands to be posting pics.
Here are the pics. Overall, the party went very well with a lot of help from all the families (parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins… really too many people to name here). Deuce is now LOADED with toys, most of which are still at Grandma and Grandpa G’s house. Since we’re moving this week, we just told them to keep that stuff until Saturday when they come out to help us move.
As far as the food goes, the everything was excellent, including the pulled pork (definitely a recipe we will use again). Everything co-operated, although the weather could have been slightly less humid (it was probably 85 degrees, but with almost 100% humidity and no wind, it was very depressing).
So now we move on to moving out of the apartment. Dana is picking up more boxes today so that we can pack up more crap, and I’m doing one final laundry run (which will probably equate to about 7 or 8 loads, but when you have 8 washers and 8 dryers, it goes quick) when I get home today. We’re going to dismantle as much as we can today and tomorrow so that Saturday is all about moving boxes and furniture. That being said, the website will probably be down on Thursday night. As far as bringing everything up, I don’t think hosting will be a problem, but I’m not sure how email will work at the new house. Here’s hoping I can get that to work. I’m sure I will be concentrating on getting other things working before I worry about the server, so I apologize for the downtime now.
I may post one more time before I shut this thing down, but if not, wish us luck!
That’s right. Today is Deuce’s first birthday. It seems as though the year has flown past. It’s been a busy year, and I must say that being a parent is a different experience.
Dana and I are busy getting ready for Deuce’s party on Saturday at Grandma and Grandpa G’s house. We’re expecting 40+ people, so it ought to be fun. We’re heading out at the crack of dawn on Saturday (well, about 6:00 am) so that we can get to my parents and get the pork butts smoking. I’m anxioius to see how this turns out, mostly because if it’s good, you know we’ll be doing it again.
Dana took cookies to daycare for Deuce and his buddies. Apparently, according to the ladies who work there, he and two of his friends like to go to the back of the room and play together away from the others. The ladies have nickname them “The Three Stooges.” Oh well, at least he’s a social butterfly. It seems as though he’s taken well to daycare, which is good, it gives him some experience interacting with kids his own age. Although, I’m sure Dana would contend that sometimes I act like a kid (maybe not his age, but still a kid).
For Deuce’s birthday party on Saturday, Dana and I wanted to have pulled pork sandwiches. We figure, if you’re gonna do it, do it right. We have a great grill grill book by the guy who runs the barbecue school featured on the Food Network, so we consulted it for a good pulled pork recipe.
It calls for a 5-7 lb. pork shoulder (or Boston butt, or pork butt… apparently the nomenclature for a pig’s shoulder is a hot topic) and a ton of spices for a dry rub. I got the spices yesterday, and Dana picked up two pork butts that come to almost 16 lbs. So we are heading to Grandma and Grandpa G’s bright and early Saturday morning (we want to be there by 7) to start “smoking pork butts.”
The best part of the whole deal: Buying the pork butt as a whole in the case we bought cost us about $1.36 per pound. I guess there is something to be said about buying in bulk.
