Well, with the holidays well over and things starting to get back into a routine, both Dana and I have been feeling pretty crappy as of late.  Partially attributed to the bevy of disease’s Deuce brings home on a weekly basis, we have yet to go a week with the entire household healthy.  I am currently nursing a cold.

We have come to the conclusion, however, that our eating habits need to change.  Not a short term “diet,” mind you, but more of a long term plan on eating healthy and exercising (neither of which we do much of at the moment).  Dana and I have tried to say “let’s eat healthy,” desperately trying to avoid the term “diet.”  However, we don’t do well with that kind of thing, as neither of us do well without some guidelines.

So we’ve decided to try the “South Beach Diet.”  Yes, I know, it’s a “fad” diet, but in reading the literature, the philosophy is one that is a bit easier to swallow than “Eat four pounds of bacon, but if you have a slice of toast you’re done.”  It basically emphasises lean meats, lots of veggies, some fruits, and some grains, all of the whole-grain persuation.  To me it seems doable, simply because the monotony of the all-meat Atkins diet is replaced with a little less fat but significantly more variety.  And the maintenance phase of the diet isn’t all that far off of our normal eating (although the fast food and potatoes have to stop, but that’s not a bad thing).

Se we’ll see how far we get.

Yes, I know, it’s the middle of February.

Better late then never, I guess.  Check them out

Note: You will need to register if you wish to view Deuce’s pics.  It’s just so Dana and I know who’s looking.

Let’s see, since last Monday:

  • We’ve had 3 mini dachshunds, two of whom love to pee everywhere
  • Dana and I have missed about 2 nights of sleep due to illness (one Deuce’s, one our own)
  • Work for me has been steadily hectic, and Dana’s had some problems with her main office that she had to get straightened out

Overall, it’s been nuts. But two of the three dogs are gone, everyone’s slowly getting healthy, and we are getting a handle on work. Who knows, maybe next week won’t be as nuts.

Yes that’s right, 3 dogs.  Don’t worry though, the gross dog weight in the house is still under 35 lbs (I’ll let you do the math).  Dana got a call from her mom on Sunday night.  Bob and Pat are in New Zealand until Feb. 7th, and they hired a dog/house sitter for the three weeks instead of taking their two mini Dachshunds to the breeder.  It’s the same lady who watches Grandma and Grandpa A’s house when they go away..

She had a stroke while she was at the house, and when she came to she had to be taken to the hospital.  Luckily, she’s going to be ok, however, the dogs needed a place to stay.  Being that we already had one mini Dachshund, we figured “eh, what’s two more?”

So Boots and Barkley are visiting for the week.  Needless to say it’s a big odd having three dogs in the house.  It’ll make me glad to have just one when they leave.
