There is some kind of bug that is finishing it’s rounds in our household. I don’t know what it was (most likely a viral infection), but it was bad. So bad, in fact, that I took Dana to the E.R. on Friday night. She was in a lot of pain, and apparently her throat and ears looked really infected, so they gave here IV antibiotics, steroids, and Dilaudid. Needless to say, her pain went away, but she’s still recovering. The pain isn’t bad, but she’s still pretty tired.

Despite that, the weekend was pretty nice. Deuce and I went to watch the Altoona Curve with Grandma and Grandpa G. It was Neil Walker Bobblehead night, although we didn’t get one…. It was a decent game though. The ballpark in Altoona is a very nice place to watch a game. Lots of space and very reasonable prices.

Sunday we just hung around outside and enjoyed the day. Dana was feeling better so we spend some time of Grandma A’s house just running around. I dusted off the golf clubs and hit a bucket of balls… nothing to impressive, but I wasn’t terrible. We’ll see what happens when I get out on the course.

I’ve decided to run a 5K on May 12. That’s right, I’m running a 5K. Why? Well, I’ve been running at least twice a week for almost 9 months now. In the past month, I’ve been running 4-5 times per week. On top of all that, my running distances have increased to between 3 and 4 miles, the latter of which is well over the 5K distance. I figure I can do it, so why not try.

I’m not planning on breaking any speed records, mind you. My average mile time is about 9:20, so I figure my 5K time will be right around 29 minutes. I think as long as I come in under 30 minutes I’ll be happy.

Monday didn’t start off too well. One of Grandma and Grandpa A’s dogs, a German Shepard named Lexi, hasn’t been doing very well. She was getting older and her hips were slowly giving out. Plus she had a host of other medical problems. As it turns out, Monday night she just stopped fighting and ended up passing away.

Now, I’ve personally never lost a pet (well, a dog or cat), but I can only imagine the difficulty of the situation. Dana was also very much attached to Lexi, so it’s been tough for her. Deuce is still a bit unaware of what’s going on, although he did ask about Lexi a few times.

So that was Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Deuce developed what looks to be pink eye, minus the discharge. Thursday, Dana took him to the doctor, and they said it may or may not be pink eye, just keep watching it at if he starts getting the “crusties” around his eye, give him drops. That’s all well and good.

Last night, Deuce developed a pretty good fever as well and had trouble sleeping. So he slept in our bed last night, which didn’t help Dana and I get a good night sleep… But he’s had a fever all day and has been real tired, so he’s going back to the doctor’s now to see if there’s anything we can do for him. Not a good week at all.

Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching, so don’t forget about Mom.

Despite the frigid temperatures, we had a very nice Easter weekend. I was off Friday, and since most of the schools were closed, Dana didn’t have anywhere to work either. So she baked paska bread while Deuce and I lounged around.

Saturday we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa G’s for a little bit to visit, since we weren’t going to be over on Easter. Aunt Emily bought Deuce a bike helmet and some Under Armour. The Under Armour is still a bit too big for him, but he’ll grow into it. Grandma and Grandpa G also got everyone an easter basket with some chocolate and gift cards, which was extremely nice and completely unexpected. After Grandma and Grandpa G’s, we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa A’s for birthday cake for Dana.

We spent most of Easter Sunday at Grandma and Grandpa A’s cooking a leg of lamb for easter dinner. We brined the lamb for a few days in a simple sugar/salt solution, then rubbed it with a spice mixture and grilled it indirectly for three and a half hours. It was, quite possibly, some of the best lamb I’ve had.

Needless to say, we ate a lot this weekend, so now it’s back to a more strict diet regime and some more running. After all, the beach is rapidly approaching.
