Okay, so no pictures this time around, just an update.  I have just over 2 weeks to go before we add our new addition to the household, and I have not a)packed my hospital bag or b)put the crib up.  I should really stop procrastinating.  I have however, washed all the baby’s clothes and cleaned the bathrooms.  I don’t know where toilets fit into the whole scene, but you never know when someone’s gonna stop by to take a pee.  At least they can marvel at my immaculate porcelain!  We made probably about a month’s worth of frozen dinners, so I think I’m okay there too.  In case you’re looking for easy freezer meals, here are a few suggestions:

  • Soups-any kind and large batches in freezer bags. (I did pasta fagioli and pumpkin soup)
  • Large casseroles-Chicken pot pie, stuffed shells, enchiladas and stuffed peppers from the garden were our favorites
  • Chicken Broth-MAKE YOUR OWN!!!!! It’s so much better!  PW has a good recipe.  Freeze in smaller bags.
  • Sauces:  I made spaghetti sauce (again, make your own!) and pesto from the garden.  This is so easy to thaw and pour over a pound of pasta.
  • Any large meats on sale-After thanksgiving, we found turkeys on sale for 49 cents a pound.

Trust me, ordering pizza and chinese will get a little old.  This is one thing I wish I would have prepared better the first time around with a newborn.  If I had more time, I’d probably make some mac and cheese and some more chicken dishes, but I think I’m good.  Thank goodness for our downstairs freezer!

In the middle of all this, Christmas is 9 days away and I still have three gifts to buy!  We did get finished today playing Santa, and that really was my main concern.  I’ve also started a new crochet project that I’m really excited about, and as soon as it’s finished, I will post a new pic.  This is the first project I’ve done where I’ve written my own pattern, so I’ll be posting that as well, and taking all the credit for it!

I will hopefully get in a few more posts before the little guy comes.  And some pics of the train table my husband is building will be up next week (hopefully).

Happy Shopping!

These are the hats, thumbless mittens and preemie afghans I’ve been making in my spare time.  (I can’t sit still very long).  The reason I’m doing this is because I found a really nice website that has given me some crochet pointers.  My aunt taught me to crochet when I was younger, and I’ve picked it up again just for something to do.

Anyway, after making my first blanket in about 5 years or so, I had a TON of yarn left over that I wanted to get rid of.  Since I have baby brain, I decided to make some baby items.

I did find a few websites that show you how/where to donate these items so that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Being it’s the Christmas season, I’m asking anyone who is creative in any way (sew/crochet/knit etc.) and has a few spare hours to consider donating something to someone.  Not necessarily baby stuff.  But, if that’s what you’re looking for, a lot of hospitals have NICUs that will accept hats, blankets and clothing.  There are plenty of organizations out there and a lot of people that are less fortunate that could use something nice from a stranger this holiday season.

I know.  It’s just an apple.  But this is the very first picture I took with my new camera.  I was so excited, I pretty much grabbed the first test subject that would stand still and be patient.  Right away, I can tell a HUGE difference in the quality of my pictures between the powershot and the SLR I got on Saturday.  I hope that all my pictures will be much better now.

Take a look at some others:

These are from my christmas tree that we decorated yesterday.  After I got the hang of taking those, I took a couple of my animals.  This one happens to be my favorite:

Doesn’t he look like he’s the boss?

More to come when I have something interesting to post….

I promise, no more apples.

I have no excuse to not post here anymore. Right before our annual Allegheny get together, I realized my camera was done. I was not happy at first-but it turned out to be a good thing because we went out on Saturday and got an awesome camera.  I started messing around with it tonite, so hopefully I will be posting some new stuff soon.
