Neuron Submitted

Published 3.24.2005 by ~mattg

Well, after much procrastination and a good couple of hours of design, I finally send Neuron to Alex King’s Wordpress theme competition.

Do I expect to win? Nope. But enough people have been downloading this thing that I figure I’d post it to a good theme library and let people use it as they wish.

In formatting Neuron for the competition, I added EVERYTHING (Pages, Archives, Categories, Calendar, blah blah blah), so if you download it now, you may have to tweak it to your liking. I added Nice Titles to the theme, but integrated the css for it with the style.css for Neuron. I cleaned up my commenting and organization on the style.css page and sidebar.php page (everything else is pretty self explanatory) and extracted the Javascript for the menus to sidebar.js.

I also made up some buttons for RSS and XHTML and placed them in the footer (removing some of the clutter of the Meta tags in the menu).

Please note that my blogs (this one and Deuce’s Wild) are currently using modified Neuron themes (although I plan on changing the Wild to something more “springy” per the wife’s suggestion). Not much should be different, but if you have questions on how to make your site do what these sites do, please let me know.

Hey Matt I just wanted you to know that I think that Neuron is really dope. I’ve already implemented it on my site and I’m pretty happy with the look and feel. Thanks for the theme, it’s the best. I hope you win!

Hi! I just wanted to say that I think your design is awesome. However, I noticed that “The Loop” you are using is for WP 1.2 not 1.5. Are you planning on making it for the new WP version?

PS: Im sure that if you do the theme completely compatible with 1.5 you will be in the winners of the contest next time. It was just a “glitch” that the judges must have noticed.

been working on your template… I checked for validation and you have a repeated error on some of the templates:

Notice the space and slash at the end of the tag. This is required in XHTML for validation. Also notice the alt attribute. This is required as well.

To spot this, go to the footer and all the images for the RSS need to have the [alt="image />] inserted at the end. Its simple cut and paste in the templates…

you also have a in the header which seems to be redundant because it wasn’t open….

I brought the XHTML validation to two errors, but cant figure out the last two:

    1. Error Line 477 column 5: end tag for “p” omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.

You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to “self-close” an element, that is, ending it with “/>” instead of “>”.

    2. Info Line 468 column 0: start tag was here.
