Break out your calculators

Published 9.22.2005 by ~mattg

This week I’ve been dealing with trying to decipher calculation bugs in our software. Doesn’t sound too bad, but it pretty much entails checking 150+ components from one test case against the test cases from the previous version and making sure that EVERY attribute matches. I’ve gone blind from comparing grids.

The week was not without accomplishment though, as I managed to resolve a few of those bugs. More importantly, I found the cause of nearly all of them, and just have to pick the brain of our senior developer when he returns next week to get some concrete answers to some of my assumptions.

I’ve moved away from C# and ASP.NET and dove headfirst into C++ in .Net (which I guess is VC++ 7). I haven’t modified any code yet, but I’m starting to remember the constructs from my few semesters of C++, so hopefully with some more refresher stuff I’ll be good to go.
