Performance Review?!?! What’s that?

That’s right. I started working in the computer field almost exactly three years ago to the day. And yesterday was my first “real” performance review. I’m really not sure how to take that.
Don’t get me wrong, it was a good review. They are very happy with my progress here. And considering I had to come in and learn VC++, I’m pretty happy with myself for getting to this point as quickly as I have. But I find it said that it’s taken me nearly three years to find a company that actually does what I think companies ought to do: review the performance of their employees. The other jobs I’ve held, well, let’s just say if performance reviews were done, many people would have been fired based on their performance, or lack thereof. Maybe that’s why they don’t do performance reviews.
This week has been full of the final feature push at work and a load of new side projects on my extracurricular schedule. Overall it’s going to be a very busy, but very good, holiday season.
