More runstoppable fun
Published 4.24.2007 by ~mattg
I haven’t forgotten about the Runstoppable.com Wordpress widget, I’ve just been a bit busy. Yesterday I was able to fix some of the parsing problems I was having with the Notes section. Now that those are out of the way, I’m contemplating the widget options that will be available to the user.
Since Runstoppable.com allows you to add custom fields that may or may not be filled in for runs, it doesn’t make sense to try to read the fields available and put check boxes on the option screen for each available field. So my thought now is to have the user enter a semicolon delimited field list in the options screen. This list will determine which tags to show, as well as their order. The first tag will be the “expandable” list item (currently my date field), while the rest will simply be the details of the run.
I also wanted to break out the pace and speed information into their own line items. But that requires more parsing, so I may wait on that one. My big concern now is that some of the fields are self explanatory (I would hope everyone knows what 4.77 mi means when we’re talking about running), but the custom fields may be a bit confusing. For example, one of my custom fields is the name of the play list from my mp3 player. That’s not entirely clear in the list. I was thinking about adding the field name as a title to the item, so when you hover over it you get the field name.
Eh, who knows… I haven’t had anyone contact me with interest about this widget, so it may just end up being my own personal project.

now you’ve had someone contact you with interest in your plugin. i have zero skill in coding so i will be no help but i am very interested in “leeching” off your skill for a runstoppable widget.
[...] why i’ve decided to try runstoppable. runstoppable does a rss feed of your workouts and matt g came up with a wordpress widget that will display a runstoppable running log in the sidebar. [...]
Robert,
Check out the Runstoppable Widget page. Like I said, it’s a work in progress, so please let me know of any problems you have (or any suggestions you may have).
Thanks
