Task Management add-ons for Outlook 2007
Published 8.08.2007 by ~mattg
In an effort to further my personal development as a software engineer, I’ve decided to get more organized. While I’m pretty good at being “feature complete” when I release stuff, sometimes I forget to do things, mostly because I don’t write them down. In an effort to correct that, I have been trying to find a good personal time manager. Given that I have Outlook 2007 installed on my work computer and I use it heavily for email and meeting scheduling, I figure I’d give it a shot as my PIM software.
So, here’s my beef: Outlook 2007 does not support sub-tasks and the workarounds are, well, crappy. The thing about development is the “tasks” I get are really small projects and require some of the tools necessary for good project management. Sub-tasks are an essential piece to this equation, at least in my opinion.
I noticed that Franklin-Covey offers PlanPlusTM as an add-on for MS Outlook. However, from what I see on their site, there is no support for Outlook 2007.
Does anyone know of any PIM add-ons to Outlook? Given that it’s pretty much cemented into my daily work, I’d love to keep my desktop a bit cleaner by not introducing a completely new application into the mix, which I why I’m looking for Outlook add-ons. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I had the same problem as you with respect to sub-tasks in Outlook. This is a decent way of handling it:

I have Outlook 2003 here at work and this solution is sufficient for me.
Hmmm… That’s an interesting solution. A bit more manual linking than I’d like (and no completion rollup), but I’ll have to try it out and see how it works.
Thanks for the suggestion.
