Exhausted…

You know, at this point there is a lot going on in my life. I’m less than three months into a new job, which in and of itself is somewhat stressful. I paid a lot of money for a television that hasn’t worked in two months, a situation which has frustrated me on many levels. Add to that some unneeded family-related stress (parents and siblings, not wife and offspring) and all in all this week has pretty much sucked. What better way to end a perfectly crappy week with a 6.2 mile jaunt through Squirrel Hill/Downtown Pittsburgh?
That’s right, Dana and I are going to participate in the Great Race this Sunday. Both of us have completed the needed mileage in runs before, so that’s not necessarily a concern. The problem is I’m emotionally and physically drained this week. In conjunction with a worse-than-usual diet (not eating a lot, and what I do eat isn’t exactly healthy), my 5 mile run yesterday may as well have been a 10 mile death march. I felt completely run down.
Dana’s not in much better shape. While she may be slightly more rested, a sprained ankle she incurred last Thursday has prevented her from doing any real distance in the last week (I think she did about 2.5 on Sunday before walking the next 4. Dana may try to run today, at least getting in 3 miles or so before the race, just to get her body back into the swing of things. I’m left with a terrible 5 mile run prior to my 10K. Previous to this week my goal was a sub-60 minute 10K… Now I just want to finish.
