I think I’m burnt out

I think I may have burnt myself out a bit over the last few months. Since I started working from home four days a week, I have been at the gym six times a week, every week for the last three months. Three times a week I lifted, but I included a two mile warm-up in that day. The other three times I ran between three and eight miles. As a result, I ran a total of 266.8 miles from January to April. To put that in perspective, I ran 392.3 miles all of last year. If I continue my current pace, I’ll have logged 800 miles this year. That’s a lot.
My May mileage is currently at about 20, so I’m on pace for a very light month. Not that I think that’s necessarily bad. If I’m not doing a long run, I will at least spend forty-five minutes to an hour on the elliptical machine. I know it’s not the same, but it helps me from losing my cardiovascular strength. I just feel like I need to get back into the swing of things. However, I have a bit of a stomach bug, so I’m not running far from home until I feel back up to par.
I also worry about my joints. Yes, running is fun and it makes me feel good. But I’d like to keep running for a while, and if that means cutting back on mileage now to save my knees and ankles, well, so be it.
