Pens vs Flyers, Game 5
Published 5.19.2008 by ~mattg
A quick penalty and power play goal off of Malone’s skate, and before you blinked it was 1-0. About seven minutes later, Malkin snuck a wrap around past a stickless Biron to make it 2-0. The Flyers had a few good chances later, but Fleury made a couple of key saves to keep the advantage at 2. The Pens look to be flying out there, let’s hope they can keep it up.
2-0 Pens
Second Period:
The quick pace and Penguin dominance continued in this period as well. Eight minutes in to the period, Crosby make a great backchecking play on Richards and turns the puck the other way. After some passes and a deflection, Crosby ends up with the puck in the corner, where he fed Hossa for a one-timer past Biron. Three minutes later, Malone deflects a Gonchar slapper for a power play to make it 4-0. Staal capped off the period scoring with a backhander past Biron with less than a minute left in the period. Philly put one past Fleury after that, but it was ruled no goal due to interference.
5-0 Pens
Third Period:
The Penguins pretty much shut everything down, allowing only 8 shots during the third. The did manage to put another past Biron, with a Hossa shot going off of Dupuis’ shin guard. Although this game was pretty much over after the fourth goal, the other two didn’t hurt. The Penguins were simply too fast for Philly, and have earned a day’s rest before beginning to prepare for either Dallas or Detroit. If Dallas can pull off the upset, the Pens get home ice for the Cup finals. Go Dallas!
6-0 Pens, Penguins win series 4-1
