Stanley Cup playoffs: The first two games.

Published 5.27.2008 by ~mattg

It was the holiday weekend, so I avoided the computer as much as possible. I caught some, but not all, of the two Cup playoff games. I didn’t watch all of them because, after a while, it just got frustrating. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Detroit is an excellent club playing great hockey. But the Penguins look like Ottawa did in the first round, they’re just handing them the series.

They are not playing their own brand of hockey. They are tight, scared, nervous, whatever you want to call it. Fleury is keeping them in games. Granted he’s given up three goals, but he’s faced 70 shots in 2 games. Meanwhile, we’re managing about 20 a game on Osgood.

For me, it’s more an air of disappointment and frustration than anything else. I KNOW this team is better than they are playing, and I KNOW this series could be 100 times more competitive than it currently is. I don’t know if it’s fear or what, but I hope the Penguins can get their head out of the ass at Mellon Arena in time to take the next two games. Let’s face it, if we are lucky enough to get back to Detroit down 3-1, I can’t see them taking a game there with Detroit having a chance to clinch at home.
