A quick Stanley Cup update

I hate to say this, but I was really under the impression that the Penguins would lose Game 5. Game 3 was a great win for them, and I really thought that they could win Game 4. But it just wasn’t meant to be, and the Wings took a 3-1 series lead back to Detroit. Given the trouble the Pens had in that building the first two games, I figured Game 5 might go the Wings way. But I had faith that maybe, just maybe, they could pull it off.

The first period re-enforced my faith, with Hossa and Hall (well, Kronwall) scoring in the first to make it a 2-0 Pittsburgh lead. However, the constant onslaught led to the Wings taking a 3-2 lead with about 10 minutes left in the game. It got down to about a minute left, and I turned it off. I couldn’t bear watch an empty net goal end the Pens’ run for the Cup. I went to my laptop to check my email (don’t ask) and checked NHL.com. All I see is “Talbot scores to send game to OT.” And of course, I’m shooting myself in the foot.

Not wanting to miss another thing, I watched the entire 3 OTs, up to and including Sykora’s power play goal to end the damn thing. So, from now on, despite my highly pessimistic attitude, I have to believe that the Pens can win the Cup. And I guess that’s all they have right now too.
