Now, back to work…

So, I realize that I’ve spent an exorbitant amount of time blogging about the Pens. Let’s face it, it’s been the main focus for the past month or so here in Pittsburgh. In between games, however, I have been working. After all, someone needs to pay my cable bill. The majority of my last month has been divided between getting a patch ready for our release product and working on our new WPF-based application.

The patch release stuff is mostly bug fixing and testing Installshield’s Patch capabilities. I did, however, get to create a small windows application to apply “service packs” to our database. It’s not much, but I think it’s pretty slick, and it allows us to update our stored procedures without breaking version compatibility.

The WPF stuff is really getting interesting. Our senior level guys have done an excellent job in providing a framework for the application, but there are all kinds of little project here and there that allow me to work with the WPF framework more and more. I’m currently working on a progress indicator for our more time consuming web service calls. Since we can’t get event data back from the call, we are essentially spinning an indicator that we’re doing something.

I have something working now, but my next goal is to make it reusable. I’m not sure how easy that’s going to be.
